Frank MacLean (87), of Spruce Haven Drive, Sydney, passed away on December 14, 2016 at Harbourstone Enhanced Care where he was a resident for the last two months. Born in Sydney Mines, he was the son of the late Dr. Duncan R. MacLean and Christine (MacDonald) MacLean.
Frank is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Florence (Flossie Campbell); daughters, Sandra MacLeod, Susan (George) Jessen and son, Scott (Cheryl Conrod). Also survived by grandchildren, Amy (Jason) McWhirter, St. Thomas, Ontario, Terrance (Lindsey) MacLeod, Frank (Jacquelyn) MacLean and great granddaughter, Avery; in- laws, Donald Campbell, Joseph (late Connie) Braunmiller, Dorothy (late Roy) Campbell; son-in-law, Earl MacLeod and many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his childhood best friend, Jack Tarr, of PEI.
He was predeceased by his sisters, Isobel (late Fyfe) Macdonald and Blanche MacLean. He started his career at the General Office, then worked at Metropolitan Life Insurance and AVTC at Point Edward, Sydney, Kentville and retired at Dartmouth. He was a member of Bethel Presbyterian Church, former member of Kinsmen, Golden K. and early morning coffee club. He was proud that he was from Sydney Mines and enjoyed participating at the weekly Sydney Mines Story Telling sessions. He liked to spend time camping and enjoyed many road trips with his family and grandchildren. He was well known at Tim Hortons in the local area. The family would like to thank Joni Redden and the staff of MacDougall Court for the care and support given to Frank and his family.
Visitation will take place at T.W. Curry Parkview chapel on Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral service will be held 11 a.m. on Saturday at Bethel Presbyterian Church with Rev. Marion Barclay MacKay officiating. Interment at Oakville cemetery, Mira.
