Ivan Franklyn Butcher

BUTCHER, Ivan Franklyn – 80, Truro, passed away peacefully, with family at his side, on Wednesday, December 14, 2016, at Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro. Born in Middle Stewiacke, he was the son of the late James Franklyn and Myrtle Thelma (Kennedy) Butcher. Ivan worked as a heavy equipment and welding supplies salesman for various companies. After doing this for a number of years, he went into business for himself and became a well-respected mobile welder who was known for his quality of work. He had an outgoing personality and liked nothing more than chatting with someone over coffee and catching up on the latest news. As well, Ivan had a soft spot for animals and loved his feline companion, Pickles. Ivan is survived by his loving wife of 32 years, Cecelia McDonald; sons, John Butcher, Truro; Robin (Cindy) Butcher, Quesnel, British Columbia; grandchildren, Bobby, Michael, Colbie, Nicholas; five great grandchildren; sister, Jean Purvis, Ottawa, Ontario; several nieces and nephews. Arrangements have been entrusted to Mattatall – Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street, Truro, where Ivan’s family will receive friends from 3-6 p.m., Saturday, December 17, 2016. Interment will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations in Ivan’s memory to Alzheimer Society of Nova Scotia are welcomed.
