Joan E. Buffett
It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our mother, Joan Elizabeth Buffett, age 74, on Wednesday, December 14, 2016 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney. Born in Sydney Mines on April 12, 1942, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Theda (Young) Scullen. Joan was employed for a number of years with National Sea Products. She enjoyed camping and family picnics on weekends with her husband, family and good friends, she also enjoyed fishing, sewing, bowling, playing darts, knitting, crocheting, baking and crafts of all kinds. Joan had a deep love for animals, her greatest joy was taming wild exotic parrots, nursing sick parrots and dogs back to health. Joan is survived by her daughter, Colleen Nault, Minnesota; her sons, Mark Buffett, Japan and Trevor (Jennifer) Buffett, Georges River, by her grandson Evan, who was the light of her life; her three godchildren, Judy Young, Margaret Gillis and Samantha Sullivan; by two special nieces, Darcie Drenikow and Denise Sullivan, also a number of other nieces and nephews. Joan was the last surviving member of her immediate family, she was predeceased by her husband, William Buffett in February 2016, her sisters, Marguerite Robinson, Helen Aucoin, by her brothers, William Scullen and Joseph Scullen, her sister-in-law, Marie Buffett, whom she could always depend on. Special thanks to Dr. Paul Hickey, to the doctors and nursing staff at Cape Breton Regional Hospital who cared for our mother during her illness. No visitation by request. A private family service will be held at a later date. Funeral arrangements are under the care and direction of W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant Street, North Sydney.
