Rose Ann MacNeil

Rose Ann MacNeil, 97, passed away on December 16, 2016 at the Glace Bay Hospital. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Born and raised in Iona, she was the daughter of the late Roderick (RJ) and Mary Sarah (MacNeil) MacNeil. A devout Catholic, Rose began working for the Diocese of Antigonish as a teenager. She worked as a housekeeper, and continued in this capacity until she retired in her mid-seventies. She resided in St. Andrew's, Antigonish (Fr. Bernard Chisholm, P.P.) for the majority of her work life. Rose was predeceased by her sisters, Catherine (Catta), Margarite, Claire and Theresa; brothers, Jackie, John ‘Dodo’ and her nephew, Richard Jankowski. Rose was always referred to by her family as Big Rose and treated all of her nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews as her own children. She was survived by her nephews, Vince Jankowski, Eugene and Bernie Gillis; her niece, Roseanne MacLean and their spouses and children. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, December 20, 2016 from 1-3 p.m. at St. Columba Church, Iona, with funeral mass celebrated immediately following at 3 p.m. Burial will take place at a later date.
