It is with great sadness that we, the brothers of Francis Black, announce his sudden and unexpected passing on Wednesday, December 14, 2016.
Born August 21, 1948, the son of John Angus Black and Sarah Catherine (Thomas) Black. Francis lived in Salmon River, Grand Mira and moved to Sydney at a young age where he resided until the time of his death. Francis started his employment with Ideal Ice Cream, before moving on to Irving Oil and in later years worked in the Alberta oil fields where he was a member of Local 92 Labour’s Union.
Francis was a member of Royal Canadian Legion, Ashby Branch 138 and the Steelworkers and Sydney Pensioners Club. He was a very outgoing person who loved to socialize and mingle with his circle of friends at local card games, whether it was a game of tarbish or poker. He also enjoyed his walks on the Sydney boardwalk or meeting and chatting with friends at Tim Hortons. He is survived by his brothers, Gerard and Kevin (Karen), Sydney and Hughie, Etobicoke, Ont. He is also survived by his aunt, Nan Gillis and numerous cousins. Besides his parents he was predeceased by his brother, John Bryden and a sister, Catherine in infancy, also sister-in-law, Lynn. Visitation for Francis Daniel Black will be held on Monday, December 19,2016 from 5-9, in the SW Chant &Son Funeral Home, 564 Alexandra St., Sydney. Funeral service will take place the following day, Tuesday December 20 at 11 a.m., in the funeral home chapel, with Fr. Duaine Devereaux officiating. With reception to follow. Burial will be held in the summer time at Forest Haven Memorial Gardens.
