Passed in: Sydney, Nova Scotia
Passed on: December 16th, 2016

It is with the sense of sadness that accompanies the passing of a loved one but also with the respect and admiration due one who has lived a good life that we, the family of Dan Munroe, announce his death. Dan passed away in the early morning hours of December 16, 2016 at the Cove Guest Home. He lived there for the past 12 years, having previously resided in Marion Bridge. He was born in Sydney on May 21, 1931.
Until his last hour he lived and enjoyed life much as he had done for his previous 85 years. He was kind and considerate to others, always appreciative and enjoyed the company of people. His life was blessed with good neighbours, work colleagues and friends. His family loved and cherished him and will forever retain him in their memories with the tender fondness that comes from knowing and being close to someone whose very life helped strengthen and sustain their own.
He was a man of plain tastes, good humor and absolute decency. For many years, he worked for the NS Department of Transportation. He enjoyed his work and the people who worked with him. He regretted retiring at 65. In retirement, however, he remained active in neighbourhood projects and getting out to dances, church socials and other community events. He especially enjoyed visits to Newfoundland and traveled there frequently. He was never one to complain and saw the best that was in everyone. He enjoyed a good meal, a good story and travelling around Cape Breton. In late 2002 he moved from Marion Bridge to the Cove Guest Home. There are no words that can properly and fully express his appreciation and that of his family for the care, compassion and love that was provided him by the people of the Cove. It is a special place and one where each and every day the better angels of the human character are present in its staff as evidenced in their innumerable acts of kindness.
Dan or ‘Bub’ as he was known to many of those close to him was predeceased by his parents, Dan and Agnes Munroe and brothers, Hughie, Willie and Jim. He was also predeceased by his close friend and companion, Florence MacVicar. He is survived by sisters, Helen (Frankum) and Lorraine (Delaney) and numerous nephews and nieces. He was particularly close to Lorraine, her husband Lawrence and their three sons, David, Donald and Jimmy. We shall forever miss him but are grateful for his life, the character of his personality and his example.
Visitation for Dan will take place in the SW Chant & Son Funeral Home, 564 Alexandra Street, 6-9 Tuesday and 12-2 Wednesday where a celebration of his life will follow at 2. Rev. Sheldon Chant officiating. Memorial donations to the Cove Guest Home would be appreciated by the family. Online condolences to swchant@gmail.com.
