Lorinda Francis
Lorinda May Francis ‘MiKiju’, 47, of 8 Mountainview Drive, Eskasoni, passed away peacefully at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital Palliative Care Unit. Born at St. Anne's Hospital in New Brunswick, she was the daughter of Mary Victoria Francis of Eskasoni and Stephen Leonard Francis of Elsipogtog, NB. Lorinda was a member of Holy Family Parish in Eskasoni. She was very active in the community, volunteering at community events and always ready to offer a helping hand to those in need. Lorinda held strong, traditional values and was a member of the Cursille movement, as well as the Native Alcohol and Drug Abuse Counselling Association of Nova Scotia. She loved her most recent career at the Eskasoni Mi'Kmaw Lodge as an Addictions Counselor.
Surviving are Lorinda's children, who she loved dearly, sons, Serge (Julie), Joseph (Noelle) and Hayze; and daughters, Lauren (Noah), Morgan and Denay, all of Eskasoni. She is also survived by siblings, Stephanie, Connie, Maureen, Amanda, Annie, Johnny, Paul, Lorne, Glen and Lester and extended family; precious grandchildren, Julianna, Berry, Serge Paul, Red, and Aiza; as well as nieces, nephews and god-children. She was predeceased by a sister, Audrey and two brothers, Eli and Vernon.
Visitation will begin after 7 p.m. on Tuesday, December 20, 2016 at the family residence. Funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:30, Thursday, December 22 at Holy Family Church with Fr. Martin MacDougall officiating. Interment to follow in the parish cemetery.
