Muriel Lois Thompson

Thompson, Muriel Lois, 95, of Bible Hill, peacefully passed away on December 16th, 2016, in the Colchester East Hants Health Centre with family present. Muriel was the daughter of the late Roy and Ella (Rankin) Totten of Belmont, Col. Co. After completing Business College in Truro, Muriel worked in various offices. During WWII, she was the secretary for Tomlinson’s Construction Co. where she met her future husband, Gordon Thompson, of Morden, MB. Gardening was a life-long passion which was reflected in the property of our family home. She later worked at the Nova Scotia Teachers’ College Library until retiring in 1986. Muriel was an “original” member of St. David’s United Church and was always busy baking & making jams/pickles for a church event. She kept up with current news items & read her daily papers thoroughly. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Always a gracious lady, she led her family by example.
Survived by daughters Ruth (the late Gerry) Mailloux, & Glenda (Terry) Rector, son, Gordon Lee (Judy) Thompson; grandchildren: Christopher (Ginette) & Bryan (Kim) Mailloux, Megan (Jason) Whidden, Chelsea (fiancé Dan) Thompson, & Sarah Ruth Rector; great-grandsons Marcus Mailloux & Noah Whidden; sister-in-law Alberta Totten, nieces Linda Totten & Vera (Mike) Chapman.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband Gordon (1973), brother Lorne, son-in-law Gerry Mailloux.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Mattatall~Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street, Truro. No visitation by family request. A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, December 22nd, at 2 p.m., at St. David’s United Church, 18 St. David’s Avenue, Bible Hill, with Rev. Donna Laurence officiating. Burial will take place at a later date in the Belmont Cemetery, Belmont. We are grateful to Dr. Michael Murray for his long time compassionate care of our mother. Thanks also to her caretakers Rose, Pat, Becky, and the V.O.N. staff. Donations may be made to St. David’s United Church or the charity of your choice.
