Ronald Blair ‘Beaver’ Hillman

It is with heartfelt sadness that I announce the passing of my dad on Monday, December 19, 2016 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney at the age of 79. Born in Sydney, he was the son of the late Edgar and Flora (Varner) Hillman. Dad worked for many years at various construction sites, both in Glace Bay and Port Hawkesbury Heavy Water Plants. Known to everyone as Beaver, my dad was always said to be the best skater to ever grace the old Sydney Forum. Dad loved life and lived it his own way. His life was truly shaken 22 months ago when he lost his guardian angel, his brother Edgar. He was never the same after that huge loss.
Dad is survived by myself, his only child Robert, my wife, Judy, my mother, Vera, Truro and by the light of his life, his granddaughter, Kathleen ‘Katie’, whom he adored. He is also survived by Kathleen’s mother, Eileen, who was very special to him. He is also survived by his sisters, Dawn Tubrett, Shirley Thurber and Bev (George) Herridge, who was dad’s best buddy and he was so good to my father over the past few years. He is also survived by his brothers, Arleigh (Elsie), Sonny; sister-in-law, Marilyn Hillman and brother-in-law, Mike Marmulak and by many nieces and nephews, who loved their uncle Beaver. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his brothers, Edgar and Dougie; sisters, Pearl, Eileen and Judy. A heartfelt thanks goes out to his family Dr. Lawand, the staff at the C.B.R.H. and also we would like to thank his neighbor and friend, Bill Boyd for all his drives and care. Cremation has taken place there will no visitation or service. Interment will take place at a later date.
In lieu of flowers or donations, you can enjoy a cigarette, raise a glass or a buy a scratch ticket, that’s what Beaver would have wanted.
