It is with sadness that we announce the passing of our father, grandfather and brother, John Young, age 78, on Wednesday, December 21, 2016, at the Northside General Hospital.
Born in Sydney Mines on March 15, 1938, he was the son of the late
John and Esther (Dalton) Young. John worked most of his life on the sea as a member of the Seafarer International Union, sailing the Great Lakes until his retirement. He was an avid animal lover and enjoyed woodworking and restoring old furniture. He is survived by his three daughters, Linda (Steve) Evers, Janice (Leo) Steele, Heather Young (Jim); three sons, Robert (Angela) Young, Kevin (Joanne) Young, Doug (Carol) Young; his former spouse and mother of his children, Violet Young; 11 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; his longtime companion, Sylvia Reynolds. He is also survived by three sisters, Loretta Johnson, Bernadette Allen and Jeanette Boutilier and by several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents; his sisters, Mildred Tobin, Doris Bragg and by his brother, Buddy Young.
The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses of the Victoria County Memorial Hospital, Northside General Hospital and Palliative Care. Cremation has taken place. A private family service will take place at a later date. Funeral arrangements are under the care and direction of W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney.
