Annie McGean
It is with great sadness that we the family announce the passing of our mother, grandmother, sister and aunt, Annie Helen McGean, age 86, on Wednesday, December 21, 2016 at the Northside General Hospital.
Annie was born in Florence, April 4, 1930, she was the daughter of the late Jack and Cecily (Gear) Kelland. Affectionately referred to by many as “The Queen of Tobin Road” Annie was well known for her love of the neighbourhood children and entertaining them in her home. Even though she had twelve children of her own, she gladly welcomed many more into her home. She enjoyed her weekly Rumoli games, TV Bingo and spending time with her family. Annie is survived by her ten children, Sheila (Angus) Miller, Florence, Billy (Sue) McGean, Boularderie, Beverly Young, North Sydney, Greg McGean (Louise MacEachern), Georges River, Becky (Calvin) Nippard, Donna (Kevin) Targett, both of North Sydney, Tammy (Don) MacNamara, Little Pond, Ricky (Chantelle) McGean, New Glasgow, Jackie McGean (Bonnie Herridge), North Sydney, Wendy (Ward) Day, Toronto; her two sisters, Eileen Matheson, Millville, Madeline Giles, Ontario; three brothers, Charles Kelland, North Sydney, Richard Kelland, Big Bras d’Or, Nelson Kelland, Sydney Mines, also surviving are 30 grandchildren, 41 great grandchildren and 12 great great grandchildren. Annie was predeceased by her two sons, David and James McGean, son-in-law, Willard Young; sisters, Viola Petrowski, Asneth Mulley, Sadie Totten and her brother, Melbourne Kelland. As per Annie’s wishes, there will be no visitation. A funeral service for family and close friends will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant Street, North Sydney; Rev. Patrick O’Neill officiating. Burial will take place at Brookside Cemetery, Sydney Mines at a later date.
