Effie (Morrison) Walker, 95, of Topshee Drive, Sydney, passed away on the An Cala Unit at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, surrounded by her family, on Thursday, December 22, 2016.
Born in Sydney, she was the youngest child of the late Peter and Isabel (Cameron) Morrison.
Effie attended Holy Angels Convent, Normal College in Truro, N.S. as well as Dalhousie University and Xavier College. Effie taught at Island View, St. Josephs, Holy Angels, Sacred Heart and Sheriff Junior High in Sydney. She maintained a great interest in her students and enjoyed relating with them over the years.
Effie was a woman of humility, faith, compassion and generosity. A member of St. Marguerite Bourgeoys Parish. She was generous with her time and talents through the C.W.L., R.C.I.A., Diocesan Society, Catechetical teacher, as well as being a strong promoter of Values Education. She also volunteered at Harbourstone Enhanced Care Facility.
Effie is survived by her daughters, Catherine, CND, Bedford; Margie (Bobby MacDonald), Sydney, and their four children, Jaclyn, Sydney, Colin (Paige), Cole Harbour, Ryan, Sydney and MaryBeth, Halifax. Also surviving are many loving nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, Leonard; five sisters, Mary, Annie Mae, Isabel, Catherine and Florence; five brothers, Michael, Ronald, James, John and Alex.
The late Mrs. Walker will rest at T.W. Curry Parkview Chapel on Monday, December 26th, 2016 with visitation from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m.
Funeral mass will be held 11a.m. Tuesday, December 27th, 2016 at Our Lady of Fatima Church, Sydney River, with Rev. Doug Murphy officiating. Interment will be in Resurrection Cemetery.
If wished, donations may be made in Effie’s memory, to the An Cala Unit at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.
