It is with heavy hearts that we the family announce the passing of our dear husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, Gordon Rogers, age 86, on Saturday, December 24, 2016 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, surrounded by his loving family. Gordon was born in North Sydney, January 3, 1930, he was the son of the late Clarence and Ethel (Sparklin) Rogers. In his earlier years he was employed as a salesman with Steel City Sales, later he operated Rogers Auto Parts and Rogers Auto Sales. Gordon enjoyed harness racing and at one time owned some harness racing horses. He also enjoyed collecting hockey cards, he belonged to a bowling league at one time, enjoyed going to dances, travelled and spent winters in Florida for over 30 years. Gordon is survived by his wife of 59 years, Bessie (MacAuley) Rogers; his three daughters, Treva (Gratton ‘Duke’) Fraser, Georges River, Valerie Rogers, at home, Karen (Donald) Campbell, Sydney Mines; two sisters, Vivian (Mike) Pate, Indiana and Olive Brown, Halifax; five grandchildren, Shawn and Susan Fraser, Stacey (Karl Lagace) Fraser, Ryan, Samantha and Shelley Campbell; three great grandchildren, Kara and Faith Fraser, who had a special place in his heart and Bridget Campbell; a number of nieces and nephews, also his special furry friend, Lucky. Gordon was predeceased by brothers, Clarence and Sherman; his sisters, Margaret, Helen and Violet.
Visitation for Gordon will be held 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant Street, North Sydney. A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday in the Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Ritchie Robinson officiating. Memorial donations can be made to a charity of choice.
