Thomas ‘Tom’ MacDonald

Thomas ‘Tom’ MacDonald, 77 of Sydney passed away at Cape Breton Regional Hospital, on December 26, 2016 after a brief illness.
Born in Sydney, he was a son of the late George and Pamela (Baker) MacDonald. Tom worked for many years at Newmans Hardware and finished out his career at Co-op Building Supplies.
He was predeceased by his brother, David and his first wife, Nancy (McGowan). Tom is survived by his wife, Bernice (MacKenzie); daughter, Karen; brothers, Rev. Donald (Marjorie), Neil (Wilma); sisters, Marion Morrison and Jean (Forrest) MacLeod; stepchildren, Harold (Gail), Helen (Jim) Walsh, Theresa, Gordie (Dorothy), Michelle (Wayne) Wald; 13 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank Dr. Steven MacDougall and associates and the nursing staff in Emergency and the 4-B unit. Family Flowers only and memorial donations can be made to Cape Breton Regional Palliative Care Unit or a charity of choice. Visitation will be held 5 – 8 p.m. on Wednesday, December 28 at T. W. Curry Parkview Chapel. A funeral mass will be celebrated at 2 p.m. on Thursday, December 29 at Our Lady of Fatima Church, Sydney River, Rev. Bill Burke will officiate.
