MCpl - White, Irvin Joseph “Gary”, 60, passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 29, 201 in the Valley Regional Hospital with family members by his side, after a lengthy battle with cancer. Gary was born on July 9, 1956 in New Waterford, Cape Breton, but moved to the tiny farming hamlet of White Settlement, Hants County, when he was six months old. He was the loving son of the late Alton Irvin and Annie Christina White. Gary is survived by his beautiful wife, Kathy Baxter; four sons, Corey (Rachel) White, Martock; Jeff (Amy) White, Lower Sackville; Kyle Campbell, Spryfield; Troy (Kelly) Bishop, Jackson’s Point, Ontario; daughter, Kameco (Marty) Sheehy, Red Deer, Alberta; eight grandchildren, Madison, Kyla, Hannah, Ben, Abby, Ayla, Benjamin and Brooke; two sisters, Debbie (Luc) LeBlanc, Ottawa, Ontario; Linda (Gary) Brown, Windsor; two brothers-in-law, Larry Baxter, Halifax; Brian Baxter, Vancouver, British Columbia; two very special brothers, Frank (Patsy) Hibbert, Kingston; Neil (Debbie) Race, Wolfville; several aunts, uncles, nephews, nieces and cousins. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by a sister, Irma Joy, both sets of grandparents, several aunts, uncles and cousins. Gary was proud to have served his country in the military, but very rarely spoke of it. His family was truly military with many serving. He was also very active in his communities he served in as a sports coach, coaching many sports and winning championships and serving on the Board of Directors for the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #74, Wolfville, the J.C’s in Windsor, Evangeline Housing Cooperative, Wolfville and Zone Command, Zone 8, Royal Canadian Legion. Gary also ran many dart leagues in the Annapolis Valley. He will be truly missed by family, friends and neighbours for the way he treated them, especially his best friend, his dog Odie. Gary requested no flowers. He was a true lover of animals so all donations in his memory were requested to be made to the Kings County SPCA. A celebration of his life was held 2 pm Monday, January 2, 2017 in the Lindsay Windsor Funeral Home (902-798-2232), 194 King Street, Box 2218, Windsor, NS B0N 2T0. Celebrant Helen Lindsay officiated. Gary’s words - Special thanks to Dr. J. Merryweather, Dr. M. Matthews as well as the fantastic staff at the Valley Regional Hospital chemo clinic for their expert care and the way they care about those of us who fought the fight. Also a heartfelt thank you to friends and neighbours who rallied behind me and to my wife who took over doing the tasks I no longer could do. You are the best !
