SMITH, Rita Mary – age 90, New Beginnings Seniors Residence, Yarmouth, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 2, 2017 in Yarmouth Regional Hospital. Born September 11, 1926 in Yarmouth, she was a daughter of the late Henry and Linda (Surette) Trahan and she worked as a fish processor. She is survived by a daughter, Georgine “Jean” Gehue, Yarmouth, as well as by sisters, Bernice Haley, Sand Beach; Georgina Allen and Mary Sisco, both of Yarmouth as well as by 12 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren. Aside from her parents, she was predeceased by her first husband, Donald O’Connell and her second husband, Sherman R. Smith, as well as by a brother, Clifford and a grandson, Robbie. Visitation took place from 2-4 and 7-9 Wednesday, with prayers at 8 p.m. at H.M. Huskilson’s Funeral Home, 29 Albert Street, Yarmouth. The funeral mass was held at 10 a.m., Thursday, January 5 at Saint Ambrose Co-Cathedral, Yarmouth, Father Henry Smolenaars officiated. Interment followed in Our Lady of Calvary Cemetery, Yarmouth.
