Myrtle Elizabeth Olsen, age 84, of Swift Current, SK passed away on December 20, 2016. Myrtle was born June 12, 1932 along the creek west of Simmie, the fourth child of John and Mae O'Neil. She met her husband, Orville, while attending school and together they had three sons: Marty, Brian, and Alan. Myrtle was a teacher's aide for a few years, a farmer for most of her life, and an avid volunteer for all of it. Myrtle loved to use her hands to create beauty. She loved to paint, crochet, knit, quilt, and garden. She enjoyed birdwatching, baked the most delicious of cookies, and had a closet brimming with canning. Myrtle loved to camp and enjoyed being a camp host for the toppling trail riders. Myrtle is survived by her husband, Orville, daughter-in-law Betty (Rick) Rouse, sons, Brian (Grace) and Alan (Mary), along with 9 grandchildren and 17 greatgrandchildren, her sisters, Jackie Erickson and Jen (Ron) Abraham and brother, David (Kathy), along with numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, John Blake Henry and Anna Mabel O'Neil, son Marty, sisters, Beatrice (Harold) Ross, Verna (George) Bymoen, Irene (Oscar) Bannick, and June as well as brother-in-law, Arnold Erickson as well as some members of Orville's family. The memorial service was held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 28, 2016 at St. Olaf Lutheran Church with Pastor Greg Kiel officiating. The organist was Arlene Olson. The eulogist was granddaughter Katelyn Toney, with granddaughter Erin McKnight reading a poem, ushers were Darvin Davidson and David Garthus, and urn bearers were grandsons Terrence Olsen and Devin Olsen. The interment will take place at Klara Cemetery at a later date. Donations in Myrtle's memory may be made to the Simmie Rec Board. Warren's Funeral Home was entrusted with the arrangements.
