Passed away peacefully under loving care at home in Chicago, Illinois on January 7 after an illness with breast cancer. Born at the Salvation Army (Grace) Hospital in St. John’s, Newfoundland, February 8, 1935 to Alfred Hipditch and Frances Veronica Hawe Hipditch, she entered Belvedere Orphanage at 13 and immigrated to the United States at age 17 settling in Maryland. She married Dr. José Manuel Cordero in 1958 and welcomed Jeannine Marie. They divorced and she married Luther George Ellzey in 1963 and welcomed Joy Charlene and George Howard. Predeceased in death by her husband and brother, Kevin Patrick Hipditch, she is survived by sister Mary Lowry Martin (St. John’s, NL), nephew Kevin Hipditch (Vancouver, BC), children Jeannine Cordero (David Kolin)(Chicago, IL), George Ellzey (Denver, CO) and Joy Ellzey Pilon (Chicago, IL) and grandchildren Yale and Katharine Kolin and Heather and Gregory Pilon. Donations in her memory may be made to Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center https://giving.mskcc.org or to your local humane society. We will forever remember her colorful stories of Newfoundland. Lover of dogs, Irish culture, sweets, travel, music, and beautiful clothes, she has an enduring home in our hearts.
