It is with deep sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our dear husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother and friend, Earl Marple on Sunday, January 8, 2017 at the age of 79. Born April 29, 1937 in Big Intervale, he was the son of the late James and Mildred (Etheridge) Marple. Earl worked for many years with CNR, transitioning to CN Marine in North Sydney where he remained until his retirement in 1994.
Earl was an avid hunter and fisher. He enjoyed taking his grandchildren to favourite hunting and fishing spots along the Margaree River. He always looked forward to springtime every year so he could ready his cabin for another season. Earl was a devoted member of Northside Baptist Church in Sydney Mines. He is survived by his loving wife, Margaret (Clark) Marple; his three daughters, Beverly MacAulay, Sydney Mines, Carolyn Robinson, Florence, Mary (Scott) MacDonald, Big Bras d’Or; by his grandchildren, Shannon MacAulay (Clifford Copage), Jennifer (Robbie) Horwood and their father Charlie MacAulay, Jonathan Robinson, Hanna MacDonald (Bryden Orrell), Emma MacDonald, Graham MacDonald; his three great grandchildren, Alexavier Doucette, Michael Copage, Claire Horwood; by his sister, Jessie Tufts of Halifax and many nieces and nephews.
Earl was predeceased by five sisters, Myrtle Stewart, Kathleen Ross, Eulah Chandler, Marguerite Cloney, Rita Wyrus; by three brothers, Howard Marple, Clarence Marple, Lewis Marple and son-in-law, Clayton Robinson.
Visitation will be 6 to 9 p.m. Friday in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney. A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday at Northside Baptist Church with Pastor Jason Homan officiating. Burial will take place in Lakeside Cemetery, North Sydney at a later date.
