New Glasgow - Frank William Cullen, P.Eng., 80, passed away at Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow, N.S., Wednesday, January 11, 2017.
Frank was a graduate of New Glasgow High School and the former Technical University of Nova Scotia. His successful career took him to many places worldwide, working for many years in Chicago, Ill., shorter periods in a variety of places including Africa and Europe, as well as working at Trenton Works.
Active in the Masonic fraternities, Frank was twice Master of Albion Lodge #5, Past Grand Steward, and Past District Deputy Grand Master, served on the Board of General Purposes, Freemasons Home Board, and the Masonic Foundation, as well as a member of Philae Shrine, and Past Grand Patron of the Order of the Eastern Star of N.S. and P.E.I., also serving as General Grand Chapter Committee Member on Shriners’ Charities.
Frank was also active in his Church, serving as an Elder and on the Board of Trustees of St. Andrews Presbyterian Church (Kirk). Civic-minded, Frank also served New Glasgow as a Councilor for Ward 1, and on various civic committees.
Frank was predeceased by his parents, Christine and Harold Cullen, and his sister Ann (Glen) Manthorne.
Surviving are his wife, Doris Brooks Cullen, and son Murray; sisters-in-law Ginger (Fraser) MacLean, Phyllis Brooks, Twila (Stewart) Dore, and brother-in-law Glen (Theresa) Manthorne, and an extended family of nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews.
Visitation will be Saturday, 2-4 and 7-9 pm at R.H. Porter Funeral Home, 55 Almont Ave., New Glasgow. Funeral service will be held at St. Andrews Presbyterian Church, New Glasgow, Sunday at 3 pm with Rev. Dr. Joon Ki Kim officiating. Albion Lodge #5 will meet at the funeral home on Saturday at 6:30 pm for their service. OES service will be held at 2:45 pm, Sunday, at St. Andrews Church. Interment will follow at a later date at Brookside Cemetery.
Donations can be made in Frank’s memory to Shriners’ Hospitals or the Aberdeen Health Foundation.
The family wishes to thank the dedicated nursing staff at the Aberdeen Hospital, particularly those on 4 South and in the Palliative Care unit, and his attending physicians, for their professional and compassionate care of Frank.
