It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend, Georgina Marie Marsh (nee Crowther), on Friday, January 13, 2017, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, due to an unforeseen illness. Born in Sydney Mines on October 16, 1936, she was the daughter of the late George and Emma (Bonar) Crowther. At the age of 20, she married her loving husband and lifetime best friend, Elmer. Gina and Elmer were married for nearly 60 years; they were blessed with five children, seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Mom was both caring and selfless and her greatest joy in life was being in the company of her family. She was an avid bowler on the Sunday night mixed league, as well as the Wednesday night women’s league at the Strand Bowling Alley in Sydney Mines for many years. She enjoyed shopping days with her friends and family, as well as Casino evenings with dad. Mom’s life was filled with music, whether it was going to Indian Beach to listen to live entertainment, or travelling in the motor home with dad to many music festivals around the Maritimes. She could also be found dancing the night away with dad and their many friends.
Gina is survived by her husband, Elmer; her children, Sherri Marsh, Scott (Lois) Marsh, Charmaine (Lloyd) Cox, Shauna (Todd) Collins and Blair Marsh; her grandchildren, Leah, Shanon, Lilly Anne, Paige, Michael, Brayden and Rebecca and her great-grandchildren, Oliver and Cooper. Also surviving Gina are her sisters, Shirley (Blowers) MacLean, Raye (Jack) Maxwell and Donna (Clint) Guy and her brother, Glen (June) Crowther. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews, her Marsh family and her long time best friend, Germaine MacLean. Mom was predeceased by her sisters, Colleen Reid and Edith Crowther; her niece, Charmaine Coady and her nephew, Chippy Reid.
The family would like to thank the staff of the IMCU, Unit 4A, of the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, as well as her team of doctors who assisted with her care during her illness. Cremation has taken place. There will be no visitation. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Donations can be made in mom’s memory to a charity of one’s choice. Funeral arrangements are under the care and direction of W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney.
