It is with great sorrow, that we announce the sudden passing of a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. Louise peacefully passed away at home, Thursday, January 12, 2017.
Born in Neil’s Harbour June 28, 1931, she was the daughter of the late Murdock William and Flora Anne (Strickland) MacLean. She was a long-time member of Warden United Church, Glace Bay where she loved going to church services and functions; she was a member of the U.C.W. and was also active on other church committees. Louise was employed in food services throughout her life and during these years she was the cook at the Miner’s Village Restaurant. She was a very kind and generous person who gave freely of herself, always putting the needs of others before those of her own. She will be remembered by all as a great family person; she truly enjoyed caring for her husband, her children and she seized every opportunity to care for and to spend time with her grandchildren.
Louise will be sadly missed by her loving husband of 68 years, Eldred; sons, Glenn (Lynda), Roddie (Kathy), both of Ont., Donald, who was her caregiver for the last number of years and special son, Murdock (Courtney) MacLean; brother, Roddie (Irene) and sister in-law, Helen MacLean all of Glace Bay; grandchildren, Nicole, Allison, Bradley, Robert, all of Ont., and Jaxon, Glace Bay. She will also be sadly missed by her great-grandchildren; great-great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and friends, especially her very good friends, Helen Steward and Joe Maidment. Besides her parents, she was also predeceased by her sister, Norma, who was like the daughter she never had; and her brother, Roy.
In honouring her wishes, cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held Tuesday, January 17, 2017 from 1-2 p.m. in the V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. A funeral service will immediately follow at 2 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Lay Minister Martha MacDonald officiating. Interment will be at a later date.
