James "Big Jim" Lee  MacAfee

James “Big Jim” Lee MacAfee, husband of Marie Aileen (Johnson), passed away at his home in Bible Hill, Nova Scotia on Saturday, January 14th, 2017. He was the eldest son of the late J. Lee MacAfee and the late Mary Eileen (Scott). Jim was born on April 16th 1946 and was raised in Oromocto and Fredericton N.B.
Besides his dear Marie, Jim will be sorely missed by daughters Julee of Earltown N.S. and Toni (Jeff Callaghan) of Halifax and precious granddaughters Molly and Emma, As well as his brother Malcolm (Nancy) of Fredericton N.B. , brother Tim of Oromocto N.B. and sister Judy Anne Breen (Kevin) of Gagetown N.B. and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Jim was predeceased by his brother Michael and son-in-law Paul Clark.
A graduate of Nova Scotia Agricultural College in 1969, Jim’s working career began with employment at the college. He later worked for the Hudson’s Bay Company before establishing his own business, FuraFee, in 1992. In 2004 Jim started a mink farm in Earltown N.S. which daughter Julee continues to operate.
As a younger man Jim was a fierce competitor on the rugby pitch, the basketball court, the track and field park and the Highland Games green. Although a formidable opponent, Jim understood when the game was over and he was renowned for his post competition fellowship. The friendships he made and maintained during his sporting life and working career are extensive and were a great joy to him. Jim was inducted into the Truro Sports Hall of Fame in 2007.
The family would especially like to thank the Victorian Order of Nurses staff as well as Diane Spears, Gert Clark and Bonnie Robin for their wonderful help which has allowed Jim and Marie to spend these last years together and at home.
Should friends desire, contributions in lieu of flowers may be sent to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or to the Scotia Pool Society.
Visitation will be on Wednesday, the 18th of January 2017 from 6 – 8 p.m. at the Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow St., Truro; The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at the Immaculate Conception Church at 669 Prince Street in Truro on Thursday, the January 19 at 2pm.
