We the family are heartbroken to announce the passing of our mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, Elizabeth Marie ‘Sis’ Halloran, 93, of Sydney, at the An Cala Palliative Care Unit surrounded by her loving family on January 16, 2017. Born in Sydney, April 18, 1923 to the late Daniel MacNeil and Elizabeth (Bessie) MacNeil.
Sis is survived by her children, Gayle (Bernie) Landry, East Bay, Charlie (Phyllis) Sydney, Hector (Sharlene), ON, Toby (Natalie), ON, Brian (Jackie), BC, Donnie (Paula), Sydney, Debi (Shaun), BC, Danny (Kathy), Sydney; 14 grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren; two great great-grandchildren; sisters, Isabel Flood and Catherine ‘Cathy’ Dolan; sister-in-law, Sally MacNeil, all of Sydney and special friend, Diane MacDonald.
Mom was predeceased by her loving husband of fifty nine years, Tobias ‘Toby’; daughter, Agnes Marie in infancy; grandson, Tony; brothers, Michael and Alex and sister-in-law, Lucy. Mom’s first love was her family, she was happiest in the midst of a huge gathering, especially if cards came into play. She will be greatly missed by her Club Girls, Mary Jane MacMullin, Gina Binns and Dolly Quinn. Mom was a frequent visitor to the many community card games that would be taking place, allowing her the chance to meet new and old friends. Her apartment at Wentworth Place became the focal point, whether it was for a game of Crib, Tarbish, conversation or just a good cup of Tea, everyone was welcomed. For Sunday brunch the more the merrier, ‘Open another pack of bacon, add some eggs, and have a seat’. We would like to thank the Doctors, nurses and staff of the CBRH especially the An Cala Palliative Care Unit.
Visitation will take place Thursday, January 19, 2017, 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. at T.W. Curry Parkview Chapel on George St. Sydney. Funeral Mass to be celebrated Friday, January 20, 2017, at 2:30 p.m. at Our Lady of Fatima, Sydney River, with Rev. Bill Burke officiating. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Palliative Care or a charity of choice. Online condolences maybe sent by visiting www.twcurry.com.
