Charles Warren Kendell
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our Charlie (Junior) on January 18th, in the peaceful surroundings of the Aberdeen Hospital Palliative Care Unit.
Born in Woodville, Codroy Valley on August 21st, 1952, he was the son of the late Charles and Vera Kendell.
Charlie is survived by his loving wife of 39 years, Judy, and their three children Kris (Lucie), Kirk (Ashley), and Emily (Oliver). Charlie was Poppy to four beautiful grandchildren; Julia, Tyler, Jack, and Harper. Charlie is also survived by his brothers and sisters; Judy (Gerry), Dennis (Maureen), Donald (Pearl), Nancy (Bob), and Bonnie (Trent), and nieces and nephews.
Charlie was a true Newfoundlander by any definition, returning annually to the Codroy Valley. He had a personality larger than life, characterized by his handsome and infectious smile. He brought much joy to everyone through his passion for music, nature, and photography.
Next to his family his greatest love was music, his guitar was never far from reach. Charlie is renowned to folk festival crowds throughout the Maritimes and was in his element when playing and singing with friends and family.
He was a long time employee and member of the Michelin family, retiring in 2011 after 31 memorable years.
Charlie had the rare and special gift of being able to brighten every room he entered. He was loved by all and will be missed greatly, but never forgotten.
Family would like to express their sincere gratitude for the care Charlie received from the nurses and doctors of Palliative Care and a special thanks to our family doctor, Dr. G Kirk. Charlie’s family will always remember the abundant support of their wonderful neighbors on Sharmac Drive and Pictou County friends.
In keeping with Charlie’s wishes, cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held at H.W. Angus Funeral Home Saturday, January 21st, from 1pm to 3:30pm; service to follow at 4 pm in the H.W. Angus Funeral Home Chapel. Interment of ashes will take place in Newfoundland the coming summer.
Charlie’s request is no flowers.
Donations in his memory can be made to the Palliative Care and/or Chemotherapy Department of the Aberdeen Hospital. Charlie’s message to us all is to “Smile and Make a Gesture of Kindness”.
