Passed on: January 17th, 2017

Charles ‘Charlie’ Kelland, 75 of Tobin Rd. North Sydney, died January 17, 2017 peacefully at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, surrounded by his loving wife and family. Born September 21, 1941, he was the son of the late Jack and Cecily (Gear) Kelland. When Charlie was younger and feeling better, he was always helping out with friend’s and family’s vehicles and liked working on his own, because his way was usually the only way of doing things (lol). He loved fishing, hunting and having a hobbie farm, with horses, pigs, turkeys, chickens and a duck, just to mention a few.
Charlie is survived and will be missed by his wife of 54 years, Pauline (Matthews) Kelland; his children, Chuckie (Kathy), Cheryl (David) LeBlanc, Jeannie (Mike) Rahey and Barbie (Vic) Dunphy; nine grandchildren, whom he loved all dearly, Jenna, Steven, Matthew and Morgan LeBlanc, Savannah Alyssa and Jameelah Rahey, Acacia and Bryden Dunphy. He is also survived by his two sisters, Eileen (Norman) Matheson, Big Bras d’Or and Madeline Giles; two brothers, Nelson Kelland, Sydney Mines and Richard Kelland, Big Bras d’Or. Besides his parents, Charlie was predeceased by his brother, Melbourne Kelland and sisters, Asneth Mulley, Annie McGean, Sadie Totten and Viola Petrowski. Keeping with Charlie’s wishes, there will be no visitation or funeral service. Cremation has taken place under the care of Fillmore & Whitman Funeral Home, 10 Clyde Ave. Sydney Mines.
