McLAREN, Kathleen Josephine “Kay” – 86, Truro. We, the family of Kathleen Josephine “Kay” McLaren, are sad to announce her passing on Saturday evening, January 21, 2017, at The Mira Long Term Care Facility, Truro. Born in Upper North River, she was a daughter of the late Daniel and Christine (MacKenzie) McMaster. (Manganese Mines) Kay is survived by her daughters, Lorraine (Kenneth) Smith, Debbie McLaren, Truro; sons, Melvin (Lynda) McLaren, David (Sherri) McLaren, Wayne McLaren, Truro; Robert Lee (Lori) McLaren, Pugwash Junction; Terry McLaren, New Brunswick; Dougie McLaren, Crowes Mills; daughter-in-law, Clare McLaren, Pugwash; several grandchildren; many great grandchildren; siblings, Marguerite Harvey, Edna (Ronnie) Crowe, Jean (Rufus) McCallum, Truro; Marjorie Bryson, Hilden; Isabel (Robert) Baisley, Moncton, New Brunswick; Walter McMaster, Bible Hill; Robert (Velma) McMaster, Timberlea; Hugh (Linda) McMaster, North River; Donald (Betty Jean) McMaster, Bible Hill; many nieces and nephews. Along with her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Daniel McLaren; son, Dale McLaren; daughter-in-law, Gayle McLaren; grandsons, Jason Langille, James McLaren; sisters, Helen (Gilbert) Ward, Ethel (Almon) Miller; brothers, Stanley (Gladys) MacKenzie, Alfred McMaster, Ernest (June) McMaster, Frank McMaster; sister-in-law, Florence McMaster; brothers-in-law, Lyle Harvey, Leslie Bryson. Special thanks to the nursing staff and care givers at The Mira and also Dr. Bruce Phillips; your care has been greatly appreciated. Arrangements have been entrusted to Mattatall – Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street, Truro, where Kay’s family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m., today, Monday, January 23, 2017, and funeral service 2 p.m., Tuesday, January 24, 2017, Reverend John Parsons officiating. Reception will follow. Spring interment in Robie Street Cemetery, 125 Robie Street, Truro. If so desired, donations in Kay’s memory to Alzheimer Society of Nova Scotia or a charity of choice are welcomed.
