Allison Borden  Chapman

The family of Allison Borden Chapman is saddened to announce his passing on January 21, 2017, in his 95th year. Family members were by his side. Born in Amherst, NS, September 30, 1921, he was the son of the late Alice Lamont and Charles Borden Chapman.
Dad was a soldier’s soldier. He served in the Canadian Army as a member of the North Nova Scotia Highlanders, joining before the start of conflict, in 1936. He served overseas in the European campaign until the war ended. After returning to Canada in 1946, he reenlisted, leaving the Service in 1954 to return to Amherst, NS, to work with his brother Maurice (Choppy) and father Bordie, in the family business, C B Chapman Ltd., Men’s and Boy’s Wear, and all the while remaining very active in the local militia.
In 2015 Dad was honoured by France for his war time service, being appointed as Chevalier de l’Ordre National de la Legion d’Honneur, (Knight of the National Order of the Legion of Honour).
In his younger years Dad was very active in his community. He served as a member of the Amherst Town Council; he was a member of the Amherst YMCA, Amherst Curling Club, Amherst Golf Club, The Snowmobile Club, Amherst Rotary Club, the Amherst Boat Club, the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 10, and the Acacia Lodge.
He was a lifelong member of Trinity St. Stephen’s United Church.
Leaving to morn his passing are his daughters, Alison Arsenault, Virginia (Don) Boudreau, Carolyn MacKay, sons, Borden and Tim, stepdaughter Kathy (Gary) Purdy and step son Jamie Ives, grand children and great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife Margaret, son Robert and stepson Peter Ives.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Campbell’s Funeral Home, 98 Church St., in Amherst where the Royal Canadian Legion Br.#10 held their tribute service at 1:50 p.m. followed by the funeral service at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, January 24, 2017. Burial will be later in the spring.
Rev. Nigel Weaver will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the North Nova Scotia Highlanders Memory Club, Royal Canadian Legion Branch 10 or a charity of your choice.
