James Lyle "Jamie" Bancks

Born: January 18th, 1949

Passed on: January 23rd, 2017

It is with sadness that we, Jamie’s family, announce his passing on Monday, January 23, 2017, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born January 18, 1949, in Sydney, he was the son of Marion (Buchanan) and the late Ainslie Bancks.
Jamie is survived by two sons, Jamie and David, Mira and their mother, Teresa. He so cherished the boys frequent visits. Also survived by his twin sister, Judy, New Waterford; sister, Sheila (Roy), Sydney and many nieces and nephews. Until its closure, Jamie was employed at the Sydney Steel Plant. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 138, Ashby, where, for many years, he volunteered his time selling poppies, as well as participating in the Remembrance Day Parade. Jamie enjoyed bowling, darts and softball. He made many friends through his team involvements over the years and never passed a person by without a big hello or wave. Jamie handled his years living with prostate cancer with relative ease. He seldom complained and often said, ‘It is what it is!’ He thought highly of his medical oncologist, Dr. Kododad and trusted and respected his advice. However, Jamie did have alternative healing therapies of his own, which seemed to enhance his quality of life. The family wishes to acknowledge and thank Dr. Gracie and the staff of palliative care for the care provided to Jamie. Cremation has taken place and a private family memorial service will be held at a later date. Words of comfort may be sent to the family at www.sydneymemorialchapel.ca or e-mail sydneymemorialchapel@ns.sympatico.ca.
