It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Richard (Dick) Whelan on January 22, 2017 in Vancouver, BC, at the age of 85. Dick is predeceased by his father Patrick; mother Ellen; sister Eleanor; and brothers William, James and Patrick. He is survived and will be lovingly remembered and greatly missed by his wife of 62 years, Eleanor (nee O'Rourke); daughter Moya; sons Tony (Brenda) and Robert (Julia); grandsons Joshua and Mark; and siblings Alyce, Marie (Peter), Gerald (Anne-Marie), John (Cynthia), Catherine (Dennis), Anne (Jim) and David. In one way or another, he took care of us all. Dick was a very proud Newfoundlander, where his ashes will be laid. He was a devoted husband, Dad, Poppy, brother, brother-in-law, and "Uncle Dick" to so many. Visitation will be held at Kearney Funeral Home, 450 West 2nd Avenue, Vancouver, on Friday, January 27, from 7-9 p.m. A funeral mass will be held at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, 3040 Heather Street, Vancouver, on Saturday, January 28, at 11 a.m. Flowers are graciously accepted, as are donations to the charity of your choice.
