Frances FitzGerald

Born: July 25th, 1917

Passed on: January 19th, 2017

FitzGerald, Frances Isabel at the age of 99, and with her loving family beside her, she went to be with her Lord Thursday January 19. Born in Brooklyn, Annapolis County, she was the eldest born to the late Parker and Annie Young (Beals). A true Valley girl, Mom worked hard on the family farm until she struck out on her own, finding work in Wolfville, where she met the love of her life, Peter FitzGerald, a young immigrant from Ireland. They married in 1939, then settled in Middleton and raised their five children together. After Dad’s passing in 1979, Mom stayed in her home, living life fully, valuing her independence, managing her own household and driving until she was 92. With the loss of her sight, she moved to Kings Riverside Court (KRC) in Kentville for her final years. Mom was a good sport and loved a good time, especially with family. Her happiest times were family parties, the best being her own birthday party, where she could be counted on to enjoy a lobster and a cold beer. Mom travelled near and far, over the years enjoying family camping trips, cottage times and international travel with both Dad and her children. She respected and inspired people of all walks in life, made friends easily and enjoyed their love and admiration. Mom’s strong hands served her family, church and community by cooking, knitting and making quilts for her family, especially her grandchildren, for friends in the community and for the Red Cross in aid of others. Mom’s strength, love of life and spirit live on in her family. Mom was predeceased by her loving and loved husband, Peter FitzGerald, brothers Parker and Raymond Young and sisters Betty Sherman and Muriel Million. She is survived by her five children and their spouses Arthur (Mary), Goderich, Ont.; Judy (Allan Dwyer), Halifax; Brian (Nadine), Kentville; Vaughn (Carolyn), The Villages, Fla.; and Greg (Louise), Bedford; her eleven beloved grandchildren, Michael, Justin (Kara), Kelly and Scott FitzGerald; John FitzGerald (Melissa) and Aimee (Sean Murphy); Ryan FitzGerald (Sue) and Alison (Chris Hynes) and Jason FitzGerald (Kaari), Erin (Brad Cormier) and Lauren (Trevor Bergmann); her beloved 17 great-grandchildren, Jordan, Kendra, Iris, Maxwell, Lorcan, Gwen, Ruari, August, Raleigh, Raija, Lilja, Arja, Riley, Jack, Adelyn, Elliott and Cohen and many nieces, nephews and friends. Also, Judy and Allan’s chosen daughter Ashley and her daughter Breayla. The family would like to thank the staff at Valley Regional Hospital who cared for Mom so well in her last days and to the staff and her friends at KRC who were so kind and loving to her. Cremation has taken place and there was no visitation. Mom's former pastor and friend of the family, the Rev. Dr. David Watt conducted the memorial service at the Middleton Funeral Home, 398 Main St. 902-825-3448 Saturday January 28 at 2:00pm. A reception followed the service. A family burial of her ashes next to her beloved Peter will take place on her 100th birthday, July 25, 2017. Family flowers only please. Donations in Mom’s memory may be made to a charity of choice.
