We the family of Johanna (Jo MacInnis) Beaton are saddened to announce the peaceful passing of our mother, mother-in-law, grand-mother, great grand-mother and aunt. Jo passed away on Monday, January 23, 2017 at Seaview Manor where she resided the last eleven months.
Jo was the daughter of the late Wm. S. and Katherine (Wright) MacInnis.
In her younger years, Mom was employed as an operator with Maritime Tel and Tel. Later, after graduating from Leon Academy of Hair Design, she was owner and operator of Jo`s Beauty Salon for many years before joining the staff of Seaview Manor as Activity Director, a job she thoroughly loved. She retired from the Manor in 1991. Her retirement years were very active, enjoying quilting, senior’s aerobics, walking, Tarbish with friends and teas, strawberry festivals, brunches and dinners at all the churches in her community. Mom was an avid Bridge player.
Mom was a lifetime member of Warden United Church and a long-time member of Jubilee Rebekah Lodge # 14. Besides her parents she was predeceased by her beloved husband and son, Chalmers Beaton and Dwight Beaton respectively. She was also predeceased by her sisters, Jean (C.R) Mackinnon, Stacia (Duncan) MacPherson; brothers, Jimmy (Madeline) and Wm. Wright MacInnis. Mushie, as she was affectionately called by her family, is survived by her daughter, Jo-Anne (Steve) Campbell; son, James (Paula) Beaton and daughter-in-law, Betty Anne Beaton; grandchildren, Matthew (Lisa) Beaton, Stephanie (James) Shellard and Andrew (Meghan) Campbell; three great-grandchildren, Max Beaton, Gwen Shellard and Charlotte Campbell; nieces, but considered more like her children, Dawn (Bruce) MacKeigan and Valerie (Late Glen) Crowdis and many nieces and nephews; sisters-in-law, Marge (late Tommy) MacLeod, Ruth (late Nelson) Beaton ; brothers-in-law Fred(Betty) Beaton and Kenny (Dolores) Bruleigh. In honoring Mom`s wishes, cremation has taken place under the direction of Patten Funeral Home, 71 Union Street, Glace Bay. Family flowers only. Visitation will take place at Patten’s Funeral Home on Saturday, January 28th, 2017, at 1 p.m. A celebration of Mom`s life will take place at 2 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Rev Duncan Roach officiating. Interment will take place at a later date at Forest Haven Memorial Gardens. Memorial donations may be made to Warden United Church or the Activity Department at Seaview Manor. Family flowers only.
