Passed on: January 25th, 2017

It is with broken hearts we announce the passing of Darrell John Billard, age 45, on Wednesday, January 25, 2017 at the Northside General Hospital. Born in North Sydney on March 17, 1971, he was the loving son of Joyce (Brown) Billard and the late Gordon Billard of North Sydney.
Darrell’s younger years were spent in Cape Breton where he learned to love nature, hunting and fishing. He spent many hours with his father, mother, brother and Uncle Willard in the country. In 1998 Darrell left Cape Breton and spent a short time in Vancouver then relocated to Edmonton, Alberta where he was employed with several companies as a Red Seal Electrician. His last job was with Acon Mod Yard. During his time in Alberta, Darrell always dreamt about returning home and many trips were made back to good ole Cape Breton with help from Aunt Valerie. Although he loved Cape Breton, Darrell made many dear friends in Edmonton through his employment, including brothers, Ingo Manz, Dano Busslinger, Freddy Biuk and John Whye, who Darrell held in high regard.
Darrell is survived by his mother, Joyce Billard; nephews, Johnathan and Matthew Billard, whom he loved dearly, his best friend and loving companion, Kim Jones and her son, Ryan and his children, Tyson and Ava and his godmother, Millie Collis. Darrell is also survived by his special uncle, Jake; his card buddies and best friends, Scott Thomas, Hartley LaFosse, Jude Robinson, Tom Patey and Joe King and many aunts and uncles. Darrell was predeceased by his father, Gordon in 2012; his brother, Ronald in 2015; his paternal grandparents, John and Marjorie Billard; maternal grandparents, John and Millie Brown and his special cousin, Elizabeth “Missy” in 2013.
The family wishes to extend a special thank you to Dr. John Kirkpatrick and staff for the wonderful care he received on 4D at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital and 4West at the Northside General Hospital. The compassion shown to Darrell was awesome.
Cremation has taken place.Visitation for Darrell will be held from 6-9 p.m. on Sunday in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney.
