Deborah ‘Debbie’ MacDonald

Born: December 5th, 1956

Passed on: January 28th, 2017

We, the family of Debbie MacDonald, announce her passing on Saturday, January 28, 2017, in the Palliative Care Unit at Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney. Born December 5, 1956, Debbie was originally from Big Bras d’Or, but resided a majority of her life in Whitney Pier.
Debbie fought a courageous battle with cancer, during which time she always remained concerned for her family and those around her; a true caregiver until the end. She spent much of her life giving to others. Whether it was looking after her siblings in her younger years, keeping lots of homemade goodies on hand within her home for visitors, or helping family or friends with their own projects, she never shied away from what needed to be done. Debbie spent the past twelve years working side by side with her children, Michael and Lisa at their business, supporting them in ways too numerous to count. Guests of Revive will always remember how happy and cheerful she was. Debbie will be lovingly remembered for her sweets and tea biscuits (the recipe for which she kept a tight secret), for her love of a good bargain and for her creativity. She inspired her own children, friends, and then grandchildren with her ability to create.
Debbie was predeceased by her mother, Joan MacLean (Fahie); stepfather, Angus MacLean; brother-in-law, Herbie Snow. She is survived by many family members and friends including her husband of 40 years, Gilbert MacDonald; children, Michael MacDonald (Beth) and Lisa Taylor (James); grandchildren, Sophia, Spencer, and Chloe; siblings, Bernadette Snow (Herbie), Avery Tromans, Rosealie MacDonald (Freeman), Liam Tromans (Judy), and Maurice Tromans. In respecting Debbie’s wishes, there will be no service. To celebrate Debbie’s life, her children will host a tea at the Big Bras d’Or Fire Hall (Debbie’s school house) on Sunday, April 9 from 2-4 p.m. Everyone is welcome to attend. The family would like to extend sincere gratitude to Bernadette Snow and Rose MacIssac who supported Debbie through all stages of her journey. If you wish, memorials may be made to the Palliative Care Unit or the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.
