It is with great sadness that the family of the late Catherine May Layden announce her passing at her family home surrounded by her loving family on Tuesday, January 31, 2017 at the age of 83 years. She leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories her children: Gary (Paulette) with whom she resided, Verna Sandor, Darlene (Ray) Vatcher, Frederick (Wanda), Hayward (Donna), Frank (Brenda), Darrell and Karl (Coreina); 15 grandchildren: Valerie (Cory), special granddaughter Natasha (Jeremy) for all her care and attention, Tammy (Hughie), Jason (Robyn), Jeremy (Krista), Crystal (Keith), Cindy, Tina, Roy (Terri Lynn), Patricia, Don (Barb), Dwayne (Tonya), Justin, Michelle (Blaine) and Melissa (Steve); 6 step-grandchildren: Trina (Gary), Trent (Malilys), Troy, Tara (Sammy), Christopher (Ashley) and Karen (John); 25 great-grandchildren especially Katie Brake with whom she resided; 15 step-great-grandchildren and 1 step-great-great-granddaughter; sister Annie (Eric) Woolridge; brothers: Cyril (Barbara) Gale and Jerome Gale; brothers-in-law: Gerry Burge and Howard Marshall; daughter-in-law Elaine Layden; special friend Florence "Florie" Collier; special furry friend Bella and special aunt Annie Nichols; as well as a large circle of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was predeceased by her husband Cecil Layden, parents Frederick and Louise Gale, son-in-law Charlie Sandor, sisters Mabel Burge and Francis (Ken) Kirby, brothers Hayward, Ambrose and George Gale, parents-in-law Gilbert and Harriett Layden, brothers-in-law Hedley and William (May) Layden, sister-in-law Drucilla Marshall. A special thank you to Dr. Al-Haidari, Karla Lavers with Community Health and Rev. Jocelyn Cook for her many visits. Friends may visit Fillatre's Funeral Home, 4 St. Mark's Avenue on Thursday from the hours of 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. The funeral service will be held on Friday, February 3 at 2:00 p.m. from Humber United Church, Clarence Street with Rev. Clayton Parsons officiating. Interment to follow at Mount Patricia Cemetery. As expressions of sympathy flowers graciously accepted or donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or the ALS Society. The family guest book may be signed by visiting www.fillatre.ca.
