Maxine MacNeil

It is with great sadness we announce the sudden passing of Maxine MacNeil at the QEII in Halifax on January 30, 2017 at the age of 69.
Marilyn “MAXINE” (Cary) MacNeil was born in Gooderham, Ontario on August 22, 1947. She was from a large family of eleven children; eight girls & three boys.
Maxine is survived by her loving husband Bob MacNeil; daughters Angie (Mike) Freeman, Jenny Klapow; grandchildren Brian (Roblyn), Laurie (Reg), Scott (Meg), Victoria, Rebecca, Alex; great grandchildren Brooklyn, Abbie, Avery, Riley and Luna. Maxine is also survived by her sisters Madeline (Bob) Woods, Barbara Cary (Ed Green), Shirley Winder (Carm Titus), Cathy White, Susan (Scottie) Scott, Bonnie (Dave) Woolley and by brothers Ross (Glady) Cary, Gary (Susan) Cary, Joe (Laurie) Cary. She also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Maxine was pre-deceased by her parents Pearl (Madill) Cary & Albert Cary and her sister Carol (Bob) Young.
While Maxine was raising her young family in Ontario, she cooked at various restaurants but her real passion was breeding her Newfoundland dogs. Maxine moved to Nova Scotia in 1981 and shortly thereafter she met and married Bob MacNeil. Her love for cats then saw her always having several at a time and she always nurtured any stray who came along.
Maxine and Bob shared a loved for camping which brought them to being regulars at Elm River Park with Maxine working the seasons for the past decade and became the voice and face to the registering guests.
Maxine will be dearly missed by her family and all who knew her.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Eagles Funeral Home Westville. Visitation will be Friday, February 3, 2017 from 6-9 pm. Funeral service will be held at Eagles Funeral Chapel on Saturday, February 4, 2017 at 1 pm. Family flowers only. Cremation has taken place.
Donations in Maxine's memory can be made to the SPCA of Pictou County.
