It is with sad hearts and love that we announce the passing of Emma (Blan) MacDonald (Humby) on Monday, February 6, 2017. Emma was born in Sydney on July 23, 1924, to the late Hezekiah and Annie Jane (Russell) Humby, Whitney Pier, Sydney. She is survived by her sister, Noreen (George) Jackson, Sydney; her children, Sylvia (late Leonard) Heath, Northside East Bay, Linda (Reg) Murray, Sydney, Baxter (Marie), Hammonds Plains, N. Prior to moving back to Sydney, she was a member of Zion Wesley United Church, Gabarus, where she was an active member of the UCW and the church choir.
She was a homemaker for many years and her greatest passion was knitting, crocheting and doing embroidery work. Mom spent many years volunteering with Cape Breton Regional Hospital Auxiliary, Club 55, Mira Stitch makers, knitting for the IWK and her church and she enjoyed her Wednesday afternoons at the United Protestant Church of Sydney River Dinner Club. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband; son, Gilbert; daughter, Emma (Vernon) Murray, N.B. and also her siblings, Herb, Sam, Eli and Baxter. Mom was a member of the United Protestant Church of Sydney River. Visitation will be held at Sydney Memorial Chapel, 49 Welton St., Sydney on Wednesday, February 8 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A funeral service will be held in the chapel on Thursday, February 9 at 2 p.m., with Rev. Dana Feltmate officiating. Interment in Lakeview Cemetery, Gabarus, at a later date. Family flowers only.
