Susan ‘Susie’ MacInnis

Passed on: February 6th, 2017

With saddened hearts we, the family, regret to announce the passing of Susan Rebecca MacInnis on February 6, 2017 at the age of 83. She passed away peacefully in the An Calla Palliative Care Unit at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital surrounded by her loving family. Susie was the daughter of the late Murdock and Hattie (Daisley) MacIntosh. Born in Smelt Brook, she moved to Edwardsville as a young girl. She married Alex MacInnis, the love of her life, and they lived in Edwardsville ever since where they raised their family. Susie's whole life centered on her love of family and community. She was always there for her children and grandchildren and loved celebrating their accomplishments as well as being there in their time of need. She was a very religious person and was a long time adherent of the Church of the Incarnation in Edwardsville and later Holy Rosary parish in Westmount. She and Alex took great pride in keeping the Church of the Incarnation in good condition and inviting to all.
She was very community minded and had a genuine love for all the youth of the area. She gave of herself untiringly and was the heart and soul of Point Edward Women's Institute where she has been a member for the past 49 years! She has held various offices at the branch level and always attended district rallies as well as many provincial conventions. She gave of her time freely helping with projects for the community. Susie shared great friendships with all the members of WINS and will be greatly missed. A highlight for her was being awarded Citizen of the Year for District 8 which included Westmount, Edwardsville, and Point Edward in 1991.
One of Susie's main passions was quilting. Her family and friends will be forever surrounded by her love while snuggled in one of her many quilts.
Alex and Susie were avid square dancers attending dances all over Cape Breton which they both loved and enjoyed with their close friends, especially Junior.
She is survived by her devoted husband of 63 years, Alex; her five children, Roddie (Janice), Edwardsville, Arlene (Steve Larsen), Saint John, Gayle (Paul Ashe), Gerard, both of Edwardsville, Christopher (Lee), Ontario. Nanny was an amazing grandmother of 13 grandchildren and five great grandsons. She is also survived by her sister, Shirley (Lonnie) Wells and brother, Bill MacIntosh; special niece, Marilyn MacNeil and several other nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her siblings, Bedford, Sadie, Jeannette and Lambert. Special thank-you to Father Doug Murphy, Doctors Archibald and Ferguson, County Home Care, Glenda and Marguerite also to the staff at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital for their excellent care in her final days. A friend like no other Ruth Arsenault who has been there for her and her family, words cannot express our thankfulness. Visitation for Mrs. MacInnis will take place from 6-9 p.m. on Thursday, February 9 at T.W. Curry Parkview Chapel. Funeral mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Friday, February 10 at Holy Rosary Church with Fr. Doug Murphy officiating. Interment at the Church of Incarnation Cemetery, Edwardsville. In lieu of flowers, family requests donations be made to Hospice Palliative Care Society of Cape Breton County. Online condolences may be sent by visiting www.twcurry.com.
