Passed peacefully away after a courageous battle on February 12, 2017, aged 72 years. Predeceased by his parents Kathleen and Otto Byrne; sister Maureen; mother and father-in-law Enid and Dr. Bernard Maher; and Robert Reid. Leaving to mourn his loving wife of 53 years, Bernadette (nee Maher); children: Chris (Jacqueline), Pamela (Terry) Horwood, and Peter Jr. (Susan); grandchildren: Katie (Riley) and Joshua Horwood and Murray and Lillian Byrne; brothers: Otto (Sharon) and William; sister Joan; brother-in-law Gerry Coughlan; sisters and brothers-in-law in England; too many wonderful friends to mention; as well as many nieces, nephews, and extended family near and far. Special thanks to Dr. Kevin Melvin, Dr. Doug Taylor, Dr. Thavanathan and Dr. Greg Rideout; head nurse Pat Vickers and the wonderful staff on 5 East at St. Clare's who treated Peter and our family with the greatest love and respect over the past several months. Thanks also to the Community Health nurses who provided many years of care. Resting at Caul's Funeral Home, LeMarchant Road. Visitation on Tuesday from 7-9 p.m. and Wednesday from 2-9 p.m. Funeral Mass to take place on Thursday, February 16th 2017 at 10:30 a.m. from St. Patrick's Church. Cremation to follow. Flowers gratefully accepted or donations in Peter's memory may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
