Passed peacefully away at the Health Science Centre on Saturday February 11, 2017 after a courageous battle with COPD, Richard Douglas Squires, Aged 73 years, of Paradise and Formerly of St. Philips. Predeceased by his parents E. Frances and Eli W. Squires; brothers Wendell and Melvin; and sister Leifa Thorne. Leaving to mourn with many beautiful memories his much loved and cherished wife and soulmate Rosalie (nee White); his children: daughter Patsy, whom he loved dearly and son-in-law James Whitten; daughter Jean Squires (George) and son Rick Squires (Colleen). His pride and joy, his grandchildren Deirdre and Ryan Whitten, Amy and Lacy Squires, and Amanda and Brooke Squires; his precious great-grandchildren Dominic and Jaxon. His step-daughters Lesley Gardner, Hamilton, Ont., and Lori Schaeffer (Michael) Blair, South Carolina, with his step-grandchildren Owen and Tegan Schaeffer. Also leaving to mourn his beloved sister and best friend Patsy Lawlor and brother-in-law Gerald. Sisters Rosalind Davis (Ronald), Florida, Rosemary Drover (Wilfred-deceased), Sandra Sharpe (Thomas), Lydia Lannom-Tennessee, Desma Dowden (Max-deceased); brothers Eli (Madeline-deceased) Olive, Max (Shirley), Tony (Judy); sisters-in-law Edna Hynes (Aiden); Peggy Smith (Ted-deceased); Eleanor Crane (Bill-deceased), Texas, Carol Squires (deceased) Ted, Glenis Coady (Pat), Evelyn Broomfield (Ed-deceased), Kaladar, Ont., and brother in law Kenneth White (Cheryl), Texas; also a large circle of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Richard was a well-known businessman and was proud to have been the first mayor of St. Thomas and the last mayor of St. Thomas before it joined Paradise. At Richard's request, cremation has taken place. Visitation will take place at Carnell's Funeral Home and Reception Center, 1045 Topsail Road, on Wednesday February 15, 2017 from 7-9 p.m. Funeral Service will take place on Thursday February 16th, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. from St. Philip's Anglican Church with inurnment to follow in St. Philip's Anglican Cemetery Columbarium.
