Cherry Blackwood (nee Collins)

After a wonderful life filled with family and friends Cherry passed peacefully away with her family by her side and in her heart. Cherry was predeceased by her loving husband and best friend Eric Augustus (Gus); infant daughter Edwina; her parents: Janeth and George Collins; mother and father-in-law: Hilda and Abner Blackwood; sisters-in-law: Edwina, Cathy, Alma, Stella, Neta, Gertrude and Syretha; brothers-in-law: Eleazor, Robert, Joseph, Ross, Peter, Clarence Janes, Ronald Roberts, Phillip Burry and her brothers: Gerald and Frazer Ward. Left to celebrate her life are her loving children: Glenn (Christine), Kim (Mark Bonnell), Brenda (Kirk Saunders), Jason (Dana) and Krista; also sharing in her loss is her brother Frank Collins (Colleen) with whom she had a very special bond. Cherry was known for her great love of children. Her grandchildren: Ben, Christopher, Laura, Emily, Ava, Ethan and Eva were the light of her life. Also left with a lifetime of memories are sisters-in-law: Mabel Ward, Evelyn Blackwood, Eleanor Blackwood, Maude Janes and Sadie (Carl Barefoot). Also a large number of nieces, nephews. She will be missed by special neighbors of nearly 50 years Helen and Molly Humphries and life long friends Gordon and Lilly Collins of Hare Bay. She was an accomplished seamstress, knitter and gardener. She volunteered in many organizations in her community. Cherry was a true caregiver, always putting the needs of others first. Her kind and loving ways will live on forever in family and friends. The family wishes to offer our sincere and loving thanks to the incredible and caring staff of the Fairhaven Unit at The Agnes Pratt Nursing Home, especially Craig Lockyer who always brightened her day and made her laugh. Visitation to be held at Barrett's Funeral Home, 328 Hamilton Avenue on Sunday, February 19th from 2-4pm and 7-9pm and on Monday, February 20th from 12 noon- 2pm. Funeral service to be held from Barrett's Chapel on Monday, February 20, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. Interment service will be held at The United Church Cemetery in Hare Bay, NL on Tuesday, February 21st, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. with a celebration of her life to follow from 3-5pm at Oram's Funeral Home in Dover, NL. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the Alzheimer's Society of Newfoundland and Labrador or the Agnes Pratt Nursing Home.
