It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Phyllis Oram, 93, on Saturday, February 18, 2017, at Harbourstone Nursing Home, Sydney.
Born in Sydney Mines on August 10, 1923, she was the daughter of the late John Malcolm and Euphemia (MacDougall) MacDonald. She was the beloved wife of Joseph Oram Sr. Phyllis worked in retail in earlier years, was a great friend to many, storyteller, and a wonderful baker and cook. She was also a great shopper, keeping herself in all the styles of the day.
Phyllis was a loving mother to her son, Joseph (Linda) and her special daughter, Nancy (late James) Cadwell. She was also grandmother to, Lorne Oram, Carol Ann (Dave), Jimmy Cadwell, Wendy (Dave), Russell (Leslie) and Anita (Hector). She is also survived by sister, Isabella Gunn, Moncton, NB; sister-in-law, Annie MacDonald; nieces, Joanne, Maureen, Karenkay, Merribeth and Mary Evelyn and nephew, Corey. She so enjoyed her visits from great-grandchildren, Jessica Oram and Marley Ellis.
Besides her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her sisters, Sarah (Sally) and Mary, and a brother, John. We would like to thank Dr. Eugene Ignacio, Dr. Hall of Sydney, the wonderful nursing staff of Fisherman’s Cove, and other disciplines at Harbourstone. We wish to acknowledge George and Robin Williams, Nancy, Carol Anne and Chrissie for their faithful visits. Thank you also to the staff of Jobes Funeral Home.
There will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place and a committal service will be held at a later date. Donations in Phyllis’s memory may be made to Carman United Church, or a charity of one’s choice. Expressions of sympathy may be forwarded to her family at www.jmjobesfuneralhome.com.
