Jean Elizabeth MacPherson of Westville N.S., passed away Friday, February 17, 2017 in the Surgical Unit of the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow, N.S.
Born in Thorburn, N.S., she was the daughter of the late James (Jim) & Pearl Smith. Jean was also predeceased by her husband John (Jack), brother, Robert (Bob) and sister, Thirza Blackmore.
She will be greatly missed by brother, Cecil (Jeanette), Garden of Eden, N.S., brother, Jimmy (Patricia), Garden of Eden, N.S., sister, Janet, Stittsville, Ont.; Sons, David (Lolita), Toronto, Ont., Paul, Westville, N.S., Allan, Greenwood, N.S. and Daughters, Jane, Bedford, N.S., Janis (John) Egan, Galway, Ireland and Ann (Ian) Magill, Ottawa, Ont., ten grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
Jean celebrated a fulfilling family life with her husband and six children during her husband's 25-year Canadian Forces career. Each move throughout Canada and Germany provided her with new experiences and friends where she became involved in church choirs, Sunday school teaching and became a very accomplished bowler. Upon retirement from the Canadian Forces, she and her husband returned to Westville, building their own home together where she became a volunteer member of the Laubach Literacy program helping to teach others to read. She also enjoyed an active outdoor life, both in her own backyard and travelling. She was a very proud 57-year member of the Order of the Eastern Star. She remained to the end a loving, caring mother to her family and true and loyal to her friends.
Cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation by her request. A memorial service will be held at Eagles Funeral Home, Main St. Westville at 1 p.m., Saturday, February 25, 2017, the Rev. Doug Pilsworth officiating with family receiving for condolences and guest book signing at 12:30 p.m. There will be no reception. Family flowers only. Interment will be held at a later date. Donations in her memory can be made to the Pictou County Food Bank or charity of your choice. A special outpouring of gratitude from the family goes out to the staff of Pictou County VON for their selfless and compassionate caring for Mom in her final years at home.
