Zelda Anne (Reid)  McPhail

Zelda Anne (Reid) McPhail, 90, of Westmount, passed away peacefully at home on February 18, 2017. She was the daughter of the late George and Mary (Boudreau) Reid. In her younger years, Zelda was a seamstress for McCurdy’s and Jacobson’s Ladies Wear. Zelda also served in the Reserve Army for 13 years. She was the last surviving Charter member of the Ladies Auxiliary and a Life member of the Parent Branch, Westside Legion 126. She was an active community member who recently received the Queen’s Jubilee Medal for her efforts. Zelda is survived by her daughter, Lucina; son, George (Coralie); son-in-law, Everett Dickson; sister, Joan Mosher; grandchildren, Linda Clarke (Derek Richards), Christine Coleman (Brian Reid), Paul and Paula Clarke, Justin Dickson, Brooke and Cameron McPhail; great-grandchildren, Tyler, Paige, August and Draydan and many special nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Wourtle; daughters, Leslie Coleman and Lydia Dickson; her partner of many years, John Nash; sisters, Pearl Thompson and Ella Royal; brothers, Charles, Fred, George, Malcolm, Clarence and Gordon and grandsons, Willie and Donnie Coleman. Visitation will be held Wednesday, February 22, 2017 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at Sydney Memorial Chapel. Funeral Mass will take place Thursday at 11 a.m. at Holy Rosary Church, Westmount, with Rev. Doug Murphy officiating. Interment will take place at a later date.
Memorials may be made to the Cape Breton Veterans Comfort Fund.
