It is with saddened hearts we, the family, announce the passing of our mother Marion Agnes (Patrick) Walker on Monday, February 20, 2017 at the Northside General Hospital surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Joggins Mines, Nova Scotia on August 10, 1926 she was the daughter of the late George and Agnes (Gordon) Patrick and step-daughter of Lena Frances (Vickery) Patrick. Marion was a faithful member of Carman United Church, a U.C.W. member and a member of Cann Rebekah Lodge. She was employed at the Sydney Mines Post Office for the duration of her working years and where she made many lasting friendships. She was a good friend to many and recognized the good in all people. She enjoyed reading and in her earlier years loved to quilt and knit. Marion also enjoyed a lively game of cards. Marion was a dedicated volunteer at Harbourview Hospital daycare for 15 years. She worked tirelessly not for the recognition but because she wanted to do it and because she enjoyed being of service of others. She will surely be greatly missed by not only by her family and friends but also by those to who benefited from her volunteer work.
Marion is survived by her three sons, of whom she was very proud, Paul (Anne) Fort Mc Murray, Phillip (Patsy), Sydney Mines and Charlie (Kim), Sydney Mines. She was Nan to eight grandchildren, Paul, Matthew, Christy, Frank Phillip, Patricia, Steven, Tara Sandy and Ian. She was also a Great Gran to eight little ones who she had the great pleasure to meet and love them all. Marion is also survived by sisters, Georgena Morris, Hamilton, ON, Joyce (Clifford) Gardner, Sydney Mines, Nancy (Kevin) McLellan, Dartmouth, NS, Debbie (Neill) Mac Millan, Hammonds Plaines; brother, Roy (Ev) Patrick, Sydney Mines; in-laws, Irene (Gordon) Wright, Lunenburg, NS, Rose Patrick, St Catherines, ON, Joyce Shaw, Chester, NS and Bill (Phyllis) Walker, Sydney. Besides her parents she was pre deceased by her husband, Frank; baby daughter, Karen; brothers, Roger Patrick, Gordon Shaw and in-laws, Don and Lil Walker, Ernie and Ellen Clark and John and Vera Young. There will be no visitation. A celebration of Marion’s life will take place Thursday February 23, 2017 at 3 p.m. in Carman United Church Sydney Mines with Rev. Nick Phillips officiating with a reception to follow. Family flowers only. A donation may be made to Carman United Church or a charity of one’s choice.
