It is with deep sadness we announce the peaceful passing of Kenneth ‘Kenny’ McIsaac, age 78, loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle and friend on Sunday, February 19, 2017 at the Northside Community Guest Home, where he resided. Born in Sydney on June 22, 1938, Kenny was the son of the late William J. and Margaret O. (Snow) McIsaac. Kenny attended Xavier Junior College in Sydney and was a graduate of Normal College in Truro and St. F.X. University in Antigonish. Throughout his teaching career he taught elementary, junior high and high school and later as a Guidance Counselor with the Northside Victoria School Board and until his retirement, as a Psychometrist in Special Education. Kenny was a faithful member of St. Joseph Church in North Sydney where he served as Lector for many years. He was a member of the Father William B. Kiely Council of the Knights of Columbus in North Sydney. For many years Kenny was involved in the Big Brothers program on the Northside. Kenny was involved in sports before and while he was teaching on the Northside and was a valued member of the Northside Minor Hockey Association. Kenny used his experience as a Guidance Counselor in his coaching of hockey teams over the years where he was very successful in winning many championships. The Junior Golf Program was another one of Kenny’s pet projects. As a well-known member of Seaview Golf and Country Club, Kenny was successful as a coach and a highly skilled player. Kenny is survived by his loving wife, Roberta (Belmore) McIsaac, North Sydney; his daughter, Laura (Carl) Jessome, Sydney; his son, Neil (Kelly) McIsaac, Bedford; his five grandchildren, Tyler (Danielle), Victoria and Kristen Jessome and Griffin and Ruby Ann McIsaac and also his great-granddaughter, Leighton Jessome. Also surviving is his brother, Alan (Carol) McIsaac, Langley, BC and sister, Mary Elizabeth McIsaac, Hamilton; his four nieces, Laura Leslie, Katie Kennedy, Anne Manner, Lynn Manner and grandniece, Alexandra Manner.
The family would like to thank Dr. John Kirkpatrick and staff at the Northside Community Guest Home who went above and beyond with Kenny’s care. Visitation for Kenny will be held from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Wednesday, February 22, 2017, in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant Street, North Sydney. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Thursday at St. Joseph Church, North Sydney with Rev. Patrick O’Neill officiating. Burial in Holy Cross Cemetery, North Sydney at a later date.
