Gordon MacKenzie

MacKENZIE, Gordon Roderick
Scotsburn

It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful death of our beloved Gordon Roderick. Born Dec 15, 1945, the son of the late D. Will and Christine MacKenzie of Rogers Hill.
Gordon was a farmer on his family farm in Rogers Hill. An electrician by trade, he was a lifetime member of the IBEW. Gordon worked various jobs before taking a position at Scott Paper (“the mill”) where he worked until his illness in 1992. He faced his illness with great determination and strength making leaps and bounds in his recovery. He never let his disabilities defeat him. Doing repairs or making inventions, he enjoyed his time puttering at the farm. A man of great character, he always had a story to tell, cherishing time spent with his family, friends and dogs.
He will be missed by his wife of 47 years, Judy (Rhyno), his daughters, Wanda (Bobbie), Pictou; Cheryl (Rod) Lovat and Debbie (Todd), Scotsburn; loving grandfather of Robbie (Lindsay) Fort McMurray; Lauren and Ethan (Lovat); proud great-grandfather of Seth and Scarlett (Fort McMurray); sister, Betty MacKenzie (Dartmouth); mother- in-law Doris Rhyno, her family; Aunt, Jean MacConnell, her family and several cousins. Predeceased by his brother-in-law, Ed MacLeod and his father-in-law Sterling Rhyno.
The family would like to thank the VON nurses, especially Kathy Carruthers, the staff at the Pictou Dialysis Unit, Dr. Cheryl Smith (in previous years Dr. Gordon Young), Dr. Gerald MacKean and staff at the Vascular Clinic in Halifax, Dr. Kwasnik and the Palliative Care unit of the Aberdeen Hospital. The family sends a heartfelt thank you to their superior support group that has been there for them throughout the years.
Funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday in Scotsburn United Church with Rev. Jim Webber-Cook officiating. Reception will follow in the church hall. Spring burial will be held in Gladstone Cemetery. Donations may be made to the Dialysis Unit of the Sutherland Harris Memorial Hospital, SPCA or a charity of your choice.
