It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Daniel Raymond McIsaac, 81 of Glace Bay. Dan passed away suddenly on Sunday, February 26, 2017 at the Glace Bay Hospital. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Born on December 5, 1935 in New Waterford, he was the son of the late Allan and Flora (MacDougall) McIsaac. Dan worked for 25 years with the Nova Scotia Department of Housing followed by 12 years with Coldwell Banker as a real estate agent. A man with great devotion to his family, he spent nearly 50 summers camping with his family and friends at the Ben Eoin Beach Campground. Very proud of his Scottish Heritage, Dan enjoyed many years as the Chief of the New Waterford Gaelic Society, sang with a Cape Breton based Gaelic Choir, attended Gaelic classes at Cape Breton University and travelled to Scotland on two occasions.
An avid sports fan, Dan could often be found following his favorite Boston based sports teams. He was a former member of the Knights of Columbus, served on the St. Anne’s Church Parish Council and was a ham radio operator (handle VE1 CBL). Dan is survived by his wife of 60 years, Annette (Legere), Glace Bay; his daughter, Debbie (Darrell) MacKinnon, Glace Bay; grandson, Daniel MacKinnon, Kentville; sister, Carmie (Billie) Sehl, New Brunswick; sister, Neila (Joseph) Nugent, Lingan; brother, Mel (Linda) McIsaac, Truro; sister, Heather Kavanaugh, New Waterford.
Besides his parents, Dan was predeceased by his brother, Mel (in infancy) and brother-in-law, Bobby Kavanaugh. There will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place under the direction of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve Street, Glace Bay. The funeral mass, officiated by Fr. Leo Boone is Thursday at 10 a.m. in St. Anne’s Church, Glace Bay followed by a reception in the foyer.
