Lea MacKinnon

At the Riverview Manor on Tuesday, February 28, 2017 the family sadly announces the passing of Lea MacKinnon, age 70, of Montague. Born in Montague, July 4, 1946, he was the son of the late John W. and Doris H. (Robertson) MacKinnon. Lea will be greatly missed by his loving siblings, Beryl James (Percy), Kaye Terry (Ed), Beth Doane (Harvey), Blaine MacKinnon; aunt Catherine Robertson; several cousins, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother Gerald at infancy. Lea was an avid bowler, rarely missing a game. He walked year after year to raise money for the “Children’s Wish Foundation”, earning the title for raising the most money for several years, in 1993 he won the award “Volunteer of the Year”. He was a long time supporter of Children’s Wish and this year Lea was honoured by The Children’s Wish Foundation when he, along with help of good friends made a significant contribution to that charity which was dear to his heart. Lea was the first person to walk across the new bridge in Montague. He was loved by all who knew him, and could always be seen walking the street doing errands for local businesses and friends, dropping off their mail or doing coffee runs. Lea was granted a lifetime membership to the Lions Foundation of Canada. He loved to stop and chat with you, no matter where you saw him. It’s been said he was one of the kindest and most caring people ever. Resting at Ferguson Logan Montague Funeral Home with visiting on Thursday, March 2, 2017 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral to take place Friday, March 3 at 11 a.m. from the Church of Christ, Montague. Interment to take place at a later date in the Brudenell Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations to Perrin’s Marina Villa Social Fund or the Children’s Wish Foundation would be appreciated. Lea’s family wish to express sincere gratitude to Care Coordinator Joanne Chisholm, to Dr. T. Christensen, Dr. S. Campbell, Dr. Megan Miller and to the caring Staff at Perrin’s and at Riverview Manor. You all helped to make this part of Lea’s journey the best it could be. www.fergusonlogan.com
