We, the family of Gladys Head, age 94, regretfully announce her passing on Friday, March 3, 2017 at the MacGillivary Guest Home, Sydney, surrounded by her family. Born in Sydney on August 1, 1922, Gladys was the daughter of the late George and Susan (Waye) Collins. She was the last surviving member of her family. Gladys loved to skate at the Pier Rink and go to dances at the Pensioner's Club with her husband, Walter. She loved to knit, sew and bake. She also enjoyed going fishing and camping with her family. Gladys will be missed by all who knew her.
Gladys is survived by her sons, Bill (Averil), River Ryan and Clyde (Judy), Niagara Falls, Ont.; daughters, Carolyn (Fred) Morgan, Sydney and Holly (Tim) Boone, Sydney, as well as 10 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sisters-in-law, Edith Collins and Margie Collins. Besides her parents, Gladys was predeceased by her husband of 74 years, Walter Head in November 2016. She was also predeceased by her brothers, Harold, George and Malcolm Collins; sisters, Lydia Noseworthy, Eda Roberts, Dorothy Dicks and daughter-in-law, Geraldine (Snow) Head. Memorial service to celebrate the life of the late Gladys Head will be held on Tuesday, March 7, 2017, at 11 a.m. in St. Alban’s Church, Whitney Pier, with Archdeacon Brenda Drake officiating. Following the service a reception will take place in Pier Community Funeral Home. Interment will be held in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens, Sydney, at a later date. Donations in Gladys' memory may be made to the MacGillivary Guest Home, St. Alban's Church or charity of your choice.
The family would like at this time to give many thanks to the staff at the MacGillivary Guest Home for their professional and compassionate care towards Gladys. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care and direction of Pier Community Funeral Home.
